Vol. 4, No. 12 – Monday, 1st April, 2019
(2 Sam.9:1-13, Ps.102:13)

If there is any aspect of grace capable of reversing the irreversible, it is mercy. If a king must eventually own a kingdom over which he will exercise his dominion, it will happen by mercy.
A man who succeeded in marrying a good wife succeeded on account of mercy. That a promised time for a breakthrough to happen did not fail can only be credited to the mercy of God.
What makes a man who has been forgotten to be remembered and made to sit on the throne is the mercy of God. When men flourish and attain heights of greatness, the answer for their ascendancy into stardom cannot be pitted on any other reason but mercy.

Equally, when men go through the harshest of life’s situations and when such cause and period of tumultuous situations were engineered by divine hands, that too occurred as a result of mercy.
Mercy prepares a man with the needed skills to meet the demands of the day soon coming. Mercy is the coolest drug on the freshest open wound. Mercy is equally the surgical knife cutting through into the flesh, the bones and the marrows in order to pull out that hydra-headed monster of cancer germ with a view to giving the cancer patient perfect peace and best health.
Mercy takes away the good man ahead of the evil day. Mercy is the cheapest to find but most difficult to obtain or to accept. No one is attempting to pacify you or please you with soothing words in this piece of writing.

So, get this into the mind of your head that your delayed marriage will in the end inform you that it was all a function of mercy. Mercy always has a happy ending. The theology we have all been brought up with only informs us about the positive sides of mercy.
The truth is that mercy sometimes has a negative beginning but is sure to end sweetly. Remember that God had sworn that King Saul and his generation would never come close to kingship or reign of any kind.
In a sense, it meant that anything palace was a no-go area for the descendants of King Saul. But why was Mephibosheth exempted from this divine judgement? Ask yourself the question, who made King David to remember the house of King Saul after so many years after King David had been crowned the king of Israel?

Really! Was there truly none left of the house of King Saul whom King David could show God’s mercy to for Jonathan’s sake? Did you say only Mephibosheth?
How wrong is such an answer. Have you forgotten Rizpah? Have you forgotten that only King Saul and Jonathan his son died in the battle with the Philistines? Yes, Ishbosheth who became king after his father, King Saul was beheaded.
But were there none others from the lineage of King Saul who were still alive? O yes, there were. So why was it a lame young man by the name Mephibosheth who was already confined to the waste bin of history in Lo Debar the one remembered for greatness and existence in the palace.

Mercy can rewrite the worst history to become the best future. Was it not also for reasons of the mercy to come that that pastor spent virtually all available finances on hospital bills from the second day of March through to the thirtieth day? Mercy knows the future.
Mercy will allow the wicked to have their way for an eventual celebration for you in the end. What is your interpretation of mercy, I should ask? “What is mercy” is best understood by the originator of mercy Himself.
All I know is that you have been delayed till now. But mercy has not allowed you to be denied. In this new moon and new quarter, mercy will turn the table the right-side-up, and you will neither be delayed nor denied again.

The problem about mercy is that whilst mercy is accessible to everyone; not everyone enjoys mercy. It is a mystery about mercy that men often miss the hour of the visitation of divine mercy and suddenly become the enemy of their God-sent angel of mercy through whom mercy will always address their situation or some men even get near mercy but interpret it to be something else.

This is the reason the set-time of mercy comes but it is not experienced. Take note that mercy should not have found Mephibosheth. For one, his condition was against him: he was already confined and condemned by lameness.
Two, he was from the cursed lineage of King Saul. Third, he had also become environmentally handicapped. By living in Lo Debar, the spiritual atmosphere over Lo Debar had moved him to the lowest of the low.
Remember Lo Debar means ‘no pasture’ ‘nothing town’. Aptly put, Lo Debar means of no use or amounting to nothing. Yet mercy passed through such dreaded environment to pick out a man.
Consider this: how long ago did Mordecai save the life of King Ahasuerus? Why was it that it was that particular night he could remember him? Why was it that Mordecai could not be remembered during any of the king’s many celebratory moments?

It is another mystery about divine mercy: it always has an appointed time. Yet, it is another mystery of and about divine mercy that its appointed time can be fast tracked. Remember Bartimaeus the son of Timaeus. Bartimaeus fast tracked the moment of his breakthrough by consistent tears and loud wailing. Maybe the way to fast track yours is by dutiful service consistently rendered without weariness, reluctance or grudge.
How many servants of God have you slighted in your heart? How many children of God have you done evil to? The Master of those servants of God and the father of those children of God cannot allow mercy flow to you. Do you doubt that? Then, carry on with your sinful life. The end will tell the entire matter in the end.

Backslidden – living in sin – needing fresh recommitment (say):
Christ Jesus, You are the Anointed One of the Most High. I come to you today as I am. In your mercy, help me out of my situation. Heal my soul, my spirit, my body, my life and my destiny. I acknowledge you as the only true lover of my soul. Please, deliver me on every side and save me through and through. I promise from the depth of my soul to be yours from henceforth, in Jesus name. Help me now O God. Be my Lord, my Saviour and my all in all from this day. Thank you Lord (read Ps.54 in closing and pray more).

HYMN: Loving Saviour Hear My Cry

1. O God, let my turn and time of mercy come.
2. O Spirit of mercy, help me to know the time of the visitation of mercy.
3. Begin to show mercy from now on.
4. Pray for mercy for two people this week: a person that you love so much and a person who has hurt you.
