THE MYSTERY OF GERIZIM (Part 3)

Curses take firm root, thrive, dominate and continue to direct at will the reason for the existence of lives because there is an underlying cause. Curses tend to possess a defiant characteristic non-cessation of dastard acts because there is always a legal force giving strength to the cause(s) which triggered the curse(s).

Thus curses remain in that state of unbroken chain or non-cessation of generational transcendency until a more superior legal force breaks the backbone of the legal force strengthening the cause behind the curse.

It is sad but so true that curses exist in the lives of even the most seriously born-again child of God. The rather unfortunate dark side of curses is that curses never want anyone to know or believe that they exist in one’s life.

Another characteristic fact about curses is that curses are living entities which do reactivate themselves when one’s career is at the edge of making a huge breakthrough. One undeniable spiritual fact worthy of mention about curses is that curses have ultimate purposes for their existence and/or their reactivation.

The central and ultimate purposes of any curses are: to divert blessings away, to make one an enemy of his/her destiny helper and/or to cut its carrier off shortly before the dawn of the carrier’s glory and celebration. Thus the major enemy of curses is knowledge.

The absence of the knowledge of the existence of curses makes them thrive and remain in their thriving gallancy. No wonder, the Spirit of the Lord inform by the prophet Isaiah in Is.5:13 that: ‘therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst’.

So then, knowledge of the existence of any problem is the start of the termination of that problem. Such problem may however yet succeed in its mission should the one who understands its existence, fail to act.

This is the reason I have argued elsewhere that whilst knowledge is but a compass showing the direction to an antidote to ameliorating or outrightly exterminating any problem, applied knowledge is the actual salvo that confines the problem into eternal oblivion.

Knowledge then is an access paving the way to power for obtaining desired result whereas however, applied knowledge is the actual power. No positive result can be guaranteed unless and until knowledge is applied.

This is the reason curses more often than not blinds the minds of many from ever believing in their existence. At other times, some do believe that the turn of events in their lives seem to be toeing the direction of a curse. But simply choose to dismiss it with a wave of hand, having countenanced the curse as mere ill-word without weight and without value.

Such was the case of Abimelech in Judges chapter 9. I strongly disapprove of Abimelech’s nonchalance however. That a curse is mere ill-words without weight and without value? But Abimelech, the curse was pronounced against you 3 years earlier, and yet 3 years afterwards, what you discountenanced and considered of no weight and no value cut up with you!

Understand the cause for the curse. The cause is the precipitator of the curse. Understand Mr Abimelech, sometimes you are not even the cause of the curse. Yet, it takes hold on you. Why? Why is the legal force behind the cause so strong? Brother Abimelech, sister Abimelech, look inward for the answer and question divinity what it could be?

Understand then brother and sister Abimelech that there is no greater legal force empowering the cause of any curse other than sin. Such was the evident example in the case of Abimelech (the illegitimate son of Gideon).

Abimelech, having ‘hired vain men’ for the murder of his 70 brothers triggered the legal force for the cause of murder.

Having occasioned the cause, all was then set for the dastard effect of the cause which is the curse. As a spiritual entity, a curse often awaits the pronouncement from a physical issuer. Once this is done, the curse takes its firm root, begins to thrive, dominate and equally begins to direct the direction of the affected person’s career and in particular that person’s destiny.

This was the exact step taken by Jotham the last child of Gideon having seen the disaster that befell his other brothers by the evil hand of Abimelech and the people of Shechem. The question is: how did Jotham succeed and what is the relevance of Gerizim in this connection?

To start with, it is an obvious fact that the Bible makes several references to mountains. Indeed, not less than 570 references are made to mount or mountain with not less than 47 different types mentioned in all in the Holy Bible. Each of these mountains have individual relevance which may not be easily noticed by any one who understands the Holy Bible from the surface.

Popular references to mountains in the Bible include: the reference to mount Pisgah. Some translators of the biblical book of Deuteronomy translate Pisgah (פִּסְגָּה) as a name of a mountain, usually referring to Mount Nebo. The region is directly east of the Jordan River and just northeast of the Dead Sea. Mount Nebo (31°45.9’N 35°43.1’E) is the highest among a handful of Pisgah summits; an arid cluster of hilltops on the western edge of the Trans-Jordanian Plateau.

Mount Nebo (Arabic: جبل نيبو‎‎ Jabal Nībū; Hebrew: הַר נְבוֹ‎ Har Nevo) is an elevated ridge in Jordan, approximately 817 metres (2,680 ft) above sea level, mentioned in the Holy Bible as the place where Moses was granted a view of the Promised Land.

Whether Mount Pisgah and mount Nebo are the same or not is not in concern. What is rather of tremendous concern is that the two mounts point in the direction of a curse (that is, the curse of almost there but never there).

Mount Horeb/Sinai refers to the mountain of God. Mount of Olivet/olives: in the Acts of the Apostles is a reference to the place from which the Lord Jesus Christ ascended into heaven.

Mount Gerizim on the other hand in Samaritan tradition is held to be the highest, oldest and most central mountain in the world.

Spiritually speaking, the rationale behind Jotham’s choice of mount Gerizim as the spot from which he could make his report and ill-willed pronouncement lies in the mysteries of its meaning, position, authority and Jotham himself. Talking about the import of the meaning of Gerizim, apart from the fact that mount Gerizim is the highest, oldest and the most central mountain in the world (at the time), Gerizim means ‘cut off’.

Nature has ears. Therefore, Jotham was aware that by choosing mount Gerizim (the tallest, oldest and most central mountain), his illwilled pronouncement would travel far and wide and the ears of nature far and near would pick it.

Nature will in turn keep the illwilled pronouncement otherwise known as curse in the archives of time where it can be retrieved or reactivated at the very point the accursed is at the brink of breakthrough or at about the height of uncommon success.

Was this not the ultimate end of Abimelech? The content of Judges chapter 9:7, 15, 16-25, 56-57 unequivocally agrees in unison. Abimelech’s destiny was wrongly redirected and cut short in its prime by the power of a curse which possessed a legal force.

Are you aware that curses are sometimes responsible for wrong choice of a life partner? Do you know that certain unexplainable deaths are caused by curses? The delay you are experiencing, have you taken time-out to find out the cause? Couldn’t a curse be the cause of that delay. At what age did you marry? What is the pattern of events in the family you descended from?

Check yourselves very sincerely and very closely too, and answer these questions very honestly. Have you ever raped any one? Did you deflower a virgin outside marriage whether or not you married her eventually? Did you deliberately allow yourself to be deflowered before your dowry was paid? Undoubtedly then, you are under a curse.

Is your mother the second, third, fourth wife and so on? If yes, the product of such false union are born into the deficit of a curse already.

Have you ever been involved in abortion? Do you partner with them that speak ill about Israelees? Have you ever taken advantage of the innocent, the poor or the handicapped? Have you ever been involved in incest (that is, sexual intercourse with anyone with whom you have a blood link)?

Do you berate, verbally or physically assault servants of God? Do you sleep with beasts? Do you steal money from church purse? Do you cheat on your spouse? Are you using your evil spiritual power to attack the kingdom of Christ here on earth? Do you disobey them that bear rule over you?

Frankly speaking, anyone who has fallen short in the foregoing has a lot of work to do. Why? Mere confession of faith onto salvation does not erase or cancel curses. So it will not do. A conscious step in fervent prayer is required under an unpolluted anointing to break curses combined with the sincere and serious resolve never to trigger the cause which strengthened the curse.

Indeed, in some situations, carefully guided restitution is required to break free from certain curses. A church pastor committing immoral sins with church members will need to confess to his/her most senior pastor even after repentance.

Likewise, the most senior pastor or General Overseer committing sexual sins will need to genuinely repent and make open confession to the entire church over which he presides as superintendent minister.

Time and chance pave the way for most opportunities. If time and chance does some day permit, we shall visit the mysteries of authority and Jotham himself on mount Gerizim. For now, here is a timely summary.

IT IS AN EVIL BARGAIN TO TRIGGER THE CAUSE OF A CURSE. FOR THE DASTARD CONSEQUENCES OF ANY CURSE ON ONE AND THE POSSIBLE GENERATIONS FROM ONE FAR OUTWEIGHS THE CAUSE WHICH EFFECTED THE CURSE AB INITIO.
