(2 Sam.12:1-15)
THE ORIGINAL MOCKERS OF GOD

The account contained in verses 1-15 of today’s text is a common account to students of the Bible. Indeed, the preceding chapter from which today’s text is a build-up is equally a common account to Christians.
What is not common is the uncommonality of the mysteries therein contained and the lessons derived therefrom. If only men count the eventual consequences of their action before their involvement, perhaps they would have given audience to a second thought.

As I have argued somewhere in literature ‘there is no better intelligence than hindsight intelligence’. The problem with the laurels of hindsight intelligence is that it is always fraught with pains, regrets and “Had I known”.
So, if only king David thought about the reality of the fact that to every cause there will always be an effect and that to every action or reaction there will be a consequence and that to every positive or negative step there would always eventualize a certain result of some kind, then he would have been more careful.

Leaving all these aside, there is a deep mystery worthy of close examination from our text. Notice that verse 14 of today’s Scripture states: ‘however, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, the child also who is born to thee shall surely die’.
Hmmm! For the sin of king David, the life of an innocent child was taken. But why? Because king David activated mockery against God. How? The first question in unraveling this mystery contained in verse 14 is the question who are the enemies being referred to in this verse.

Understand that all that king David did including sending letter through Uriah, the death of Uriah, the sexual sin with Bathsheba, the pregnancy of Bathsheba and in fact making Uriah’s wife, Bathsheba to become his own wife after Uriah’s death were all done with some guile, deceit and cover-up.
So then, humanly speaking, we cannot but conclude that no enemy knew about it. Who then are the enemies of the Lord being referred to in verse 14. The enemies under reference are Satan, demons, wicked spirits and fallen angels. For every sin that a man commits these forces are immediately aware. And one of the early things they do is to go before God and make a mockery of God about what that child of God has done.

This is an aspect of satanic activity triggered by man’s action which man often forgets to deal with. Oftentimes, man, especially Christians only remember that dark forces go before God to raise accusations. But how many know that for their actions God too is being mocked and accused?
Are you a child of God who causes shame and mockery to God? Do you think you will go scotfree? Each time man commits sins, these forces stir, laugh and scorn the Almighty. They reopen the wounds of Christ on the cross of Calvary afresh.
Think about it! Do demons respect you sir? Can God recommend and commend you as He did to Job? What defines your life when you are left alone in the secret or in the closet of your heart?
When you read messages of this kind, do you agitate and say that message is nothing else but judgmental? Will a message of this kind make you to be more watchful? Will it stir you into serious prayer for holiness?
In the final equation, a fundamental principle of the law of agency states that ‘qui facit per alium facit per se (he who acts by another acts by himself). The Christians who lives in sin is the one who hands over the authority and ensuing right flowing from that authority to the enemies of God to make a mockery of God. So then, such Christian is the one who is mocking God originally and indirectly.

THE MYSTERY AND THE MIRACLE OF TIME AND RIGHT TIMING

Indeed, the statements that ‘God works in mysterious ways’ and ‘His ways are past finding out’ are all true. For surely, God cannot be limited by circumstances, by time nor by space. The Almighty noted that in Ecclesiastes 3:11 that He, God makes all things beautiful in His time’.
What could such a profound statement ever mean? In the main, it means that God is the definer and determiner of time. Man’s time has never been God’s time and can it ever be? That is a question of a kind of rhetoric.
Imagine the events which played out at the wedding in Cana of Galilee contained in our text of today. The most important item in any Jewish wedding being wine was expended and there was no leftover. Put more apt, a need for wine arose at a most awkward time when it shouldn’t have arisen.
In other words, need arose at the wrong place, at the wrong time and at the wrong event of life. But mysteriously, the Master of the universe was there. When His mother met Him to plead for a spiritual action that can birth a physical result, His reply was equally a mysterious one. The Master of the universe simply replied that His time was yet to come.

Time has not yet come when a miracle is dearly needed? That in itself is a mystery too. Suddenly thereafter, an instruction came from the Master: fill the water pots with water. But Greatest Master, you just told us that your time has not yet come. You mean on the same day your time can yet come? Self-existing God, what a wonder you are! In one day, there was no time; On the same day, time came for a miracle to happen.

Understand dearly beloved, the mystery here is pointing in a particular direction. What direction? It is the direction indicating that man can always do something that will fast-track the eventuality of his miracle. It is a statement of spiritual truth that 24 hours are too many for God to do that thing man is longing for.
What must man do to trigger divine response? That is always a question for man to find an answer. For Esau all he needed to trigger heavenly blessing was to feed his father, Isaac with the meal that his father, Isaac loved the most.
Oh! How I wish that man will come to the revelational understanding that fasting is not meant for praying alone. A day or three days of fasting of praises to God will tear the heavens apart and empty the treasury of heaven upon such a praiser.

What will that man standing over there or sitting nearby do to trigger the reaction of divinity against his oppressors? What is that thing that the reader of this piece needs to do in order to draw down the hand of Jehovah as was supposedly done by the bride or the bridegroom at the wedding in Cana of Galilee?
To obtain Samuel from God, Hannah did something (1 Sam.1:11). To get a divine husband from God, Ruth did something (Ruth.3:8). In order to break the yoke of barrenness, Abraham and the Shunamite woman fed and sheltered servants of God (Gen.18:2-15 and 2 Kings.4:8-37). Joseph ascended the throne of greatness by an action found to be most pleasing to God (Gen.39:12).

As for you, sister Leslie and as for you, brother Lincoln, the question now arrives at your doorstep; what would you do that will fast-track the time of your miracle, command the attention of heaven or that will make God arise and fight?
Amiss they say is as bad as a further mile away to trek. If God were to fast-track the time of your miracle O man, would you still miss the miracle? Just take a look at verse 7 of today’s text. The Master of the universe said ‘go and draw it now’. And when they drew it, it was no longer water but wine with the sweetest taste.
But how did it happen? It happens by nothing else but by instant obedience which is that brings blessings, not a later obedience which is always displeasing.

The Master said ‘go and draw it now’. Now means now. If they had gone to draw it later, they would have drunken water, not wine. ‘Now in that sense is divine time and right timing by divinity’s understanding. Thus it is possible for an action to be in time but not rightly timed.
For instant obedience means strict followership of time and right timing. It is instant obedience which births blessings. Instant obedience means you reverence, cherish and value God profoundly. The act and the art of quality reverence, cherishing and valuing God can turn the hand of divinity in one’s favour.

IN THE END, MEN CONSIDER TIME FROM BOTH CYCLICAL AND LINEAR DIMENSIONS. BUT THE DEFINITION AND THE CONSIDERATION OF THE ALMIGHTY TO THE ISSUE OF TIME IS A DETERMINATION OF THE ALMIGHTY HIMSELF, THE ATTITUDE OF MAN TO TIME AND RIGHT TIMING ALL JUDGED BY MAN’S INTENTIONS AND CONSEQUENT ACTIONS.
