SUSTAINING LIVELIHOOD THROUGH SPIRITUAL FOOD
Vol. 4 No. 46 – Monday 25th November, 2019
(Deut 8:3, Joshua 1:8)
The assertion that food sustains the flesh, while fasting sustains the spirit are unfolding truth in the journey of life. To maintain good vigour and vitality, a balance diet is important according to classes of food such as carbohydrate, protein, fat and oil, vitamins and water. When each of these classes of food is combined in the right proportion, then you have balace diet which nourishes the body.
In the topic above, livelihood in this parlance refers to ‘maintenance’. The spiritual food can only be demystified through spiritual lens of the content of Deuteronomy 8:3 ‘And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live’
It means that the Isrealites eat the word of God, many Christian have eaten the word according to the flesh while paying little attention to the spiritual food, they wanted physical gratification at the expense of spiritual gratification that is needed to sustain them to the promise land.
The spiritual food is not limited to fasting and praying. Joshua 1:8 ‘This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.’ Combining the two bible passages, I conclude that the spiritual food a man needs adequately to sustain himself is the WORD OF GOD.
The word is in turn our livelihood while thriving the route of life.
The word is the spiritual food, it is life. John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
The spiritual food as evangelism
Mark 16:15 ‘And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature’
The Spiritual food of holiness
1 Peter 1:15-16 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
Spiritual food of Faith.
What makes the spiritual food effective in the life of a man is combination of the above through complete obedience to the word of God day and night.
James 1:25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
In conclusion, being a doer of the Word is akin to obedience which makes a balanced spiritual diet.
IN THE END, ONLY THOSE WHO COMBINE A SPIRITUAL BALANCE DIET WILL BE SUSTAINED IN THE JOURNEY OF LIFE.
