LITTLE THINGS THAT COUNT
(Part 4)
Welcome to the penultimate edition of the little things that count. All the texts in today’s edition of The Message Now are all worthy of careful study and deep meditation.
To start with, there is the account about the ten lepers in Luke chapter 17 from verses 11 to 19. At their requests, the healing presence of the Lord made those ten lepers whole. But ever wonder why the Lord requested them to go and show themselves to the priest?
The ultimate answer is in the little things that count. By clear spiritual injunction, certain people and ailments were not permitted to enter into either the congregation or to come near the altar of the Lord during the Old Testament era.
It was a little thing at least to the relations of such people. But to God it counted so much. Lepers in particular were not allowed into the temple or into the camp following Mosaic Law of God (see Lev.13:46 and Num.5:2-3).
The obvious reason was in order to avoid pollution or the spread of such ailments to other people because of their contagious nature. Of course, in the Old Testament, lepers had bells attached to their waist so that as they moved the bells jingled to inform the public that an unclean personality was ahead and passers-by needed to be watchful.
So, in one sense, lepers were outcasts: they were such people without societal acceptance. So then, the Lord knowing that His own healing presence had made them whole referred them to the priest for purposes of confirmation of their present health status, for reacceptance back into the congregation, the removal of untoward public stigma and shame and for the purpose of pronouncing their testimony by the priest.
However, there is always a further mystery in everything the Lord does. By instructing the lepers to go and show themselves to the priest, the Lord was fulfilling and futher encouraging a little thing but which counts so much as already laid down in Leviticus 13:6 and 14.
It is the little thing called medical test and medical confirmation. The human body is programmed by God in such a way that you are well-informed ahead of any physical disturbance in the system.
But human carelessness and share negligence often compounds human body problems. It is but a common sense question to ask: what is really the big deal in going for simple medical check up whether ill or not?
When some pastors tell us: before we pronounce you as man and wife, we must get your medical health status from an approved medical practitioner, some Christians simply berate such spiritual guidance and take the pastor to be a Man of God of no faith.
Dear Christian sister or brother, can we not ask ourselves the sincere question why God recommended medical tests and medical confirmation in the Bible? Can’t God tell when an initially ill person was well? So, did God need medical confirmation?
The answers to these two questions are obvious. The Lord can tell when an individual was well. Therefore, God doesn’t need medical test. But understand that God has given all men a brain. Therefore, common sense tells us that there are certain things that God will not do for man.
In addition, the Lord requested for medical test in the jewish own way to teach the necessity of testing ailments which was a shadow of the lesson to come. For He, the Almighty foreknows all things and by foreknowledge, He knew that certain ailments and diseases can spread and become an epidemic which, if not swiftly attended to from the root, can become endemic in the end.
Faith is good. But it is also faith to prepare ahead of time and harm. Many of us grow up today with AS or SC genotype because of our parents’ share negligence. What would you call it? That you got married without checking up your spouse’s blood group and genotype?
Your claim is that you were blinded by love. Blinded by love? Blind love is stupid love. Wise men though blindly in-love still see and do reason. Medical tests and medical confirmation is but a little thing but counting so seriously.
Are you aware that it is medically dangerous for a nursing mother to breast-feed her baby having become pregnant and expectant of a new one? Why? A pregnant woman’s body releases enzymes during the period of pregnancy.
Those enzymes can be so strong and acidic to such degree that if the baby being nursed dare sucks the mother’s breast at such times, the likelihood that that baby will die is very high. It is a little thing but it does count.
Are you aware that the reason for your inability to conceive might just be as a result of your food in-take? Why? It is proven truth that certain foods when consumed at a period when a woman is ovulating or if consumed shortly after conception, the ovulation may either dissolve into blood in which case it is converted to something akin to menstruation or the conceived pregnancy may be lost by reason of miscarriage.
Some fizzy drinks popularly called soft drinks can be so strong because of their content that they can terminate early pregnancy, especially during the first trimester. This is another little thing that counts.
Are you equally aware that no one who has undergone boarding school education is free from that terrible bacteria called staphylococcus? Staphylococus (famously known as staph) is a bacteria which often exists like a virus.
Staph travels through the use of common toilets or through sexual relations and remains in the human bloodstream. Staph’s major attack is always targeted at the sexual organs. Staph is responsible for watery semen in men.
It is oftentimes responsible for miscarriage or even the outright inability of a woman to conceive. Are you planning to marry or are you praying to God for another baby? Can you take a break and ask a competent doctor to conduct an all-round medical check up on your health status and body conditions?
The message is an obvious one: be not a carrier of staph. It is a little thing but it counts. Men often think they are enjoying the pleasures of sin by getting involved in sexual affairs outside marriage.
NO!!! You are destroying yourself. Apart from common toilets, staph is largely contracted and contacted through sexual intercourse. Unfortunately for men generally, staph never reveals its presence so quickly as in women.
So, there are no visible signs for years. Why? The woman’s body can so easily accommodate staph by the very nature of their own system. So when men jump from women to women, if it is not HIV that you get eventually, remember that you are loading your system with staph.
The result will come to bite you some day. Perhaps your argument is that tailored towards the use man-made self protection. I tell you that you are still not safe. Those sex protection tools have been discovered to have pores (tiny holes) in them. I assure you that staph can make its way through those tiny holes.
Be informed also that staph is one of the most resistant bacteria to medical treatment. Should you not avoid it? It is a little thing counting so true and so hard. Will you be a victim all because you don’t care about your health and health status?
IN THE END, IGNORANCE AND NEGLEGENCE ARE OFFSPRINGS OF THE SAME PARENTAGE: THEY PRODUCE THE SAME RESULTS. THE SAME HARM WHICH THE DISASTER YOU KNOW MUCH ABOUT WILL DO TO YOU IS THE SAME HARM THAT WHICH YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT WILL DO SO LONG AS IT EXISTS.

6.O God, confirm my sonship today by the witness of your Spirit.
7.Where is the hiding place of the wicked that is plotting my downfall, O God, flood it with infirmities, restlessness and unending disaster.
