(2 Cor.12:1-10, Prov.24:16)
WEAKNESS NEVER DESTROYS BUT RELISHING THEM DOES
To deny the reality of personal weakness is to deny the existence of human frailties and be prepared for sudden disaster. Every man exists with his own unique strength and diverse weakness.
The diversity of weakness is most necessary for humanity for where one is weak the other is strong. The implication of diversity of weakness therefore is complementary. This complementarity is well-established in the Holy Scriptures.
Ecclesiastes chapter 4:9-12 states in this respect that:
9 Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.
10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.
11 Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone?
12 And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
Understand the treatise of these four verses that one major assault rifle against weaknesses is companionship in complementarity. But shall we understand also that whilst complementarity is but one aspect of overcoming personal weaknesses, especially in the general sense, personal resolve is another, especially in the specific sense.
It is said that the mind is the man. But what would this imply in this connection? It implies the following:
(1) a defeated mind produces a defeated man.
(2) A man on the outside can never be better than who he is on the inside. A man’s outshow is more often than not the sole evidence of his inward display.
Permit me to remind us again that man is fraught with frailties. The question is how do you as a man respond to your frailties. It is a man’s response or reaction to his frailties that will determine his ascension or descension in things of life and destiny.
Every man’s weakness is his storm. His ability to stand is dependent on his strength. But whether strong or weak in moments of weakness, one thing remains the sole key. That all-important singular key is the attitude of personal resolve.
When the great Apostle Paul tells us in 2 Cor.12:9; And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. He gives us an eternal message about weakness.
It is the message of how to respond (not react) to our weaknesses. Responding to weaknesses is by:
(a) realizing (not denying) its existence.
(b) Presenting it or them to the helpful God not being hypocritical about them.
(c) Seeing that weakness with the eyes of spiritual joy not with the heart of bitterness and complaining.
(d) Appreciating God for that weakness for it is the thorn of God to make us draw closer to Him. If you were not blind Mr Pastor who knows whether you would have even known or loved God let alone attempt to serve Him.
(e) Know and believe that weakness or storm has a satanic design. Therefore, hate it with perfect spiritual hatred. In so doing, you would not relish it and enjoy the pleasures of sin thereby and in the end be destroyed.
(f) Learn from the saying of Apostle William F. Kumuyi. The Apostle of holiness treatise: ‘a man is not a man because he finds it convenient to so say. But rather, his ability to laugh through life’s storm makes him one’.
Hmmm!!! Words of the wise!!! Can you question yourself for a moment? Can you inquire innately and passionately about your weaknesses? Brother, Sister, what is your weakness? Is it gluttony?
Is it too much affection for sex? Hmmm! Mrs sister! You want your husband to be in bed with you six or seven times in a single week? Sister, six or seven times in one week!!!!!!! Don’t drain your husband with your weakness.
Get busy with some other things. Be like a Christian sister I know too well. There are 168 hours in a week. Spending even 1 over 42 of that 168 hours in legitimate sex is an insult and an unpardonable assault on spiritual progress.
Do you love fighting, arguing or talking from night onto the break of day? If I may ask, what is that recurring storm of your life? Is it unchanging situation of poverty? Examination failure not success?
Is it the inability for so long to make progress, marry, gain admission into higher institution? Are you always hated, envied and despised not loved, admired or accepted? Constantly bedevilled by the spirit of anger? Your situation will soon change, in the name of the Lord Jesus.
IN THE END, RECOGNISING ONE’S WEAKNESS OR STORM, REPROOFING IT AND REJOICING OVER IT BEFORE GOD IS THE SUREST PANACEA FOR VICTORY WHERE STRENGTH ARISES AND SUCH STRENGTH IS ALLOWED TO OVERRIDE ANY SUCH WEAKNESS OR STORM.
